A BlankTV Feature Presentation:
Myrath - "Merciless Times"
MYRATH is a Metal band from Tunis-Tunisia, a small country well known for its resort areas on the Mediterranean coast but certainly not for its Metal bands, yet in just few years what started out as a teenager cover band became a well known and respected band by the international Prog-Power Metal community.
Much like their 4th full length studio album “Tales Of The Sands”, the song “Merciless Times” reflects the highly chaotic times during which the band recorded their album: the Arab Spring. Imagine trying to record guitar parts while your other band mates are busy barricading the studio to protect it from the old regime militias trying to get in and the revolution raging outside the door... They say making Metal music requires courage, there is no doubt Myrath had a great dose of it struggling through all of this.
Shooting this video was no easy task either. The band relied almost exclusively on its own means, friends and extra talents. As it was shot in the desert, finding electricity was quite an adventure, especially when the first electrical installation crashed, the second one caught on fire as they were playing and almost electrocuted them when someone was about to throw water at the flames to try to extinguish the fire. Then came the epic of trying to find an electrician in the middle of the night, in the Tunisian desert, during the Ramadan… Long story short, what was supposed to last 2 hours ended up lasting all night long with no food available and closed with a flat tire on their way back home at 7 a.m. … Lesson learned: When you want to, you can.
As if this wasn’t amazing enough, Myrath is now going to tour Europe with Orphaned Land from Israel. Dubbed “The tour to Or Shalem”, this metal tour will celebrate friendship between Jews and Muslims and show the entire world what metal is really about: music and friendship.
